Van roof rack installs

A full-length rack turns the roof into usable space for solar, Starlink, lights, an awning and gear, installed by the Beachside team in Atlantic Beach.

Roof racks at Beachside

Beachside likes roof racks because they cut down on holes in the roof. Solar panels, lights, a Starlink dish and an awning can mount straight to the rack instead of the roof, so the roof keeps fewer penetrations that could one day leak.

The rack bolts to the van's factory mounting points, which is why it is usually the first exterior upgrade: so much else can go on it later.

Beachside installs standard, low-profile and safari-style racks, with deck panels where you want to stand or store gear. The shop's favorite rack brands are Flatline Van Co, White Top Adventure, RoamBuilt, Owl Vans and Aluminess. The same team installs racks on its own 2027 models, so the hardware and wiring are done the way the shop builds its vans.

What the install includes

  • The rack fitted to the factory roof mounts and torqued to spec
  • Deck panels and crossbars, if your rack has them
  • Photos of the roof before and after the work
  • Mounting solar, lights, Starlink or an awning to the rack is quoted as separate work

How an install is booked

Four steps from the first message to pickup.

  1. Ask for an estimate

Tell the team your van's year, model and length and what you want installed. Photos help.

  2. Approve and order the parts

If the estimate works for you, a deposit covers the materials and the shop orders the parts. Small jobs are usually booked about a month out.

  3. Install at the shop

The in-house team that builds the 2027 models does the work at the shop in Atlantic Beach.

  4. Pickup and warranty

Labor is billed when the job is done. The team walks you through the install, and the work carries a 1-year warranty.

Questions

Labor $750 to $1,500. Depends on the rack. The rack itself, and mounting anything to it, are quoted separately. Beachside sends an estimate before any work starts.

Yes. Most Beachside builds mount walkable semi-rigid panels on the rack, which leaves the roof itself free of extra holes. Mounting the panels and wiring is quoted as separate work, and it can be done at the same visit as the rack.

A ladder makes the rack much easier to use, and most racks are installed with a side or rear ladder at the same time.

Installs are done on any make of van, including the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster. Full camper van builds are Sprinter only.

No. Beachside supplies the parts for every install, from brands it is an authorized dealer or installer for.

Small jobs are usually booked about a month out. Every install carries a 1-year warranty.
